When Bedouin Records was founded in 2014 by Salem, it had a mission to uphold a sound standard that strayed from the normal emerging from its scene. With a rise in contemporary house and techno, a return to lo-fi aesthetes, and the white label resurgence, Bedouin set out to create a standard on par with record production in the fields of audiophile communities, pressing to heavier wax and creating jackets and sleeves that matched the quality of the pressing as well as the sound on the record. It benchmarked the label and caught the attention of musicians, DJs, and record sellers alike. A positive foundation was set.
With that same quality and care that goes into the musical production as well as the physical object, the costs have been high, especially with continual global fluctuations in currency and rising distribution costs. Bedouin still maintained this level of care in its artists and releases, but the influx did not match the output. Coming now to what has affected many an artist and independent label alike in 2020, Bedouin has found itself in debt to mastering engineers, distributors, and pressing plants. To avoid bankrupting the label and walking away, Salem has decided instead to reach out to the community of fans, listeners, and appreciators that have been the cohesive factor since 2014.
To raise the funds needed to establish a solid basis for the days ahead, the label is offering collectors and donators a gift of music in a highly unique series of box sets, bags, and subscription access to the label. The Box Sets will be available to higher tier donators, and include all vinyl output from 2018-2020 in a constructed box sleeve and include a high quality poster outlining the releases. Tiers below the upper echelon will receive a black tote with the Bedouin emblem with 5 releases in each. Furthermore, those willing to give even small but helpful amounts to the label will receive the tote on its own, records on their own, and even digital download codes for the discography.
Bedouin Records is now at a fever pitch with ideas and new horizons. Rashid feels he is truly taking the label in a direction it has had the trajectory for since the beginning, reaching into genres both on and off the dance floor and working with new voices and peers from across the globe. Salem hopes to create and better the listening experience of the label, with no decrease in attention and details. The grounding of the label benefits the artists and production alike so that Bedouin can go on functioning for many years to come.
